Arc & Oak Interiors

A living room by Arc & Oak in late-afternoon sun: a limewashed wall, an arched window onto a rain tree, a fluted oak console with a travertine top, a brass dome pendant, a cane lounge chair on a jute rug and an olive tree in a stone pot.

Calm, crafted homes and workplaces, drawn to the millimetre, built by our own carpenters and handed over on the date we promised.

Selected work

Rooms we drew, built and handed over.

Four of the 280 spaces we've finished across Bengaluru. Drag the divider to see a Whitefield living room on the day we got the keys, and the day we gave them back.

After: the same room at handover, with a fluted oak media wall and lit shelves, a linen sofa, a travertine coffee table, a brass arc lamp and sheer curtains in evening light.
Before: the Whitefield living room on the day we got the keys, a bare concrete shell with chased conduits, one bulb, cement bags and a ladder, and new towers going up outside.

Material library

Six honest materials, used well.

We would rather use six materials beautifully than sixty badly. Every one of them is in our library in Cooke Town, to hold, scratch and take home overnight.

The studio's sample board, from above: a white oak panel, a honed travertine tile, a brass handle and brass square, an olive lime-plaster tile, a cane-weave square and folded linen, beside a pencil floor plan and a brass rule.
A-402The library table, each sample numbered as it is in the schedule below, laid on a client’s plan.
  • White oak

Rift-sawn and hard-wax oiled, for joinery, floors and fluted panels.

Matt · FSC · ages to honey

  • Travertine

Honed and unfilled, for console tops, basins and thresholds.

Honed · sealed · cool underfoot

  • Unlacquered brass

Handles, pendants and inlays that darken where hands touch them.

    Brushed · lives with you

  • Stonewashed linen

Woven in Panipat, for sheers, headboards and loose covers.

    Washable · softens with age

  • Olive lime plaster

Hand-trowelled lime, tinted olive, for one wall that holds the room.

    Breathable · no VOC

  • Cane weave

Hand-woven in Kolkata, for wardrobe shutters, headboards and chairs.

    Natural · repairable

The studio

We draw everything before we build anything.

Arc & Oak is eighteen people: designers, a site team and eleven carpenters in our own workshop in Bommasandra.

We started in 2014 with one rule: if it isn’t drawn, it isn’t built. Every switch, every shadow gap and every hinge is on paper before a saw comes out, which is why our sites are quiet and our handovers are on time.

We take on about twenty-four homes and six commercial projects a year, so a principal designer is on every one.

A-001The living room at the top of this page, as Meera drew it in week three: every piece placed and every dimension fixed before a plank was cut.
  • Meera Raghunathan

    Principal designer

Trained as an architect; still draws every plan by hand first.

  • Kabir Shetty

    Head of build

Twenty years on Bengaluru sites. Has opinions about grout.

  • Anjali Rao

    Senior designer

Kitchens and wardrobes; measures twice, then once more.

  • Farhan Qureshi

    Joinery lead

Runs the Bommasandra workshop and its eleven carpenters.

Reviews

In our clients' words.

4.9

Average of 180 reviews from clients who’ve lived with our work for a year or more.

They redrew our kitchen four times without a single sigh, and the fourth one is the room we live in now. The site lead sent a photo every evening, so I never once had to chase anyone.

Lakshmi R.3 BHK, Whitefield

Our café opened on the day they promised. Customers still ask about the counter every week.

Arjun M.Café, Koramangala

Sixty people on one floor and it is genuinely quiet. The felt baffles were the best money we spent.

Rohan K.Office, HSR Layout

I was in Singapore for most of the build and never felt out of the loop. The swing is everyone's favourite seat.

Divya S.Villa, Sarjapur

Questions

What everyone asks at the first meeting.

And the honest answers. Anything else, ask us on the site visit.

How much does a full 3 BHK cost?

Most of our 3 BHK homes land between ₹24 and ₹38 lakh, including furniture we make and lighting, and excluding loose furniture you buy. You get a room-by-room budget at the concept stage, and a fixed price before anything is built.

Can you work with our builder's handover date?

Yes. Tell us the possession date and we'll plan backwards from it. We can measure and design while the building is still being finished, so the build starts the week you get your keys.

Do you only do full homes?

No. Kitchens, wardrobes, a single room or a ninety-minute consultation are all fine. Commercial projects start at about 800 sq ft.

What happens if you're late?

The handover date goes into the contract. If we miss it for a reason that is ours, we pay a week's rent for every week we run over. It has happened twice in eleven years.

Which areas do you work in?

All of Bengaluru, including Whitefield, Sarjapur, Hebbal and Electronic City, and weekend homes up to 150 km out. Site visits within the city are free once you've booked a consultation.
