# Software for skin clinics in India

A skin clinic in India runs two businesses under one dermatologist: medical dermatology — acne, eczema, psoriasis, infections — that patients reach through search and referral, and aesthetic treatment — laser, peels, pigmentation, hair restoration — that is researched for weeks, sold as a course of sessions and decided on trust. The website and the software have to serve both without letting the second undermine the first.

## The workflow we build around

1. **Consultation with the dermatologist** — Everything starts with a diagnosis, the aesthetic work included. What looks like pigmentation to the patient may be melasma, and the plan — including whether a laser is appropriate at all — depends on that call.
2. **Treatment plan and package** — Most aesthetic treatment runs as a course: six to eight laser hair reduction sessions spaced weeks apart, a series of peels, several sittings for hair restoration. The package is usually sold, and often paid for, before the first session.
3. **Sessions and clinical photographs** — Each session is a procedure with its own settings, performed by the doctor or trained staff under supervision, with photographs taken at the same angle and in the same light to show progress. Without comparable photographs a patient in session four cannot see the change and stops coming.
4. **Aftercare between sessions** — Results depend on what happens at home: sun protection, the prescribed regimen, what to avoid after a peel. Clinics that check in between sessions keep patients to the end of the course; clinics that do not see them drift away after the second or third.
5. **Maintenance and the next concern** — A finished course is followed by maintenance sessions and, often, a second concern. The patient already trusts the clinic, and a clinic that remembers what was done and when is the one they come back to.

## Constraints that change the build

- **Medical and cosmetic work are taxed differently.** Healthcare services by a clinical establishment are generally exempt from GST, but the definition of healthcare expressly excludes cosmetic and plastic surgery and hair transplants, and skincare products sold at the counter are goods. One patient’s visit can carry three tax treatments, and the billing has to know which is which.
- **Advertising a medical practice is restricted.** Professional-conduct rules limit how doctors advertise, and health-advertising and consumer-protection law rule out cure claims and guaranteed results. Before-and-after photographs need consent scoped to that use, and pigmentation pages need copy that does not present darker skin as the problem — which the advertising industry’s own code on skin-lightening claims asks for as well.
- **Who performs a procedure matters.** Lasers, peels and injectables carry real risk in untrained hands, and professional guidance expects them to be performed or supervised by a qualified doctor. The clinic’s records have to show who did each session, at what settings, and under whose supervision.
- **Clinical photographs are personal data.** A face photographed at every session is sensitive personal data under the DPDP Act. Consent to be photographed for the record is not consent to appear on the website, the photographs cannot live on a staff member’s phone, and a patient who withdraws consent has to be removable from everywhere they were used.

## What we publish for this industry

### Next.js websites for skin clinics

A skin clinic website has to keep medical dermatology and aesthetic treatment apart and do both honestly: condition pages for acne, eczema or hair loss that lead to a consultation, and treatment pages with the number of sessions, a cost band and the dermatologist’s qualifications. Before-and-after photographs come last, and only with consent.

### Apps and custom software for skin clinics

A skin clinic sells courses, so its software has to track the course rather than the visit: a package of sessions paid upfront and drawn down session by session, the device settings and clinician for each one, standard photographs that show progress, and billing that taxes medical, cosmetic and retail lines correctly on one invoice.

### AI agents and chatbots for skin clinics

An AI agent for a skin clinic answers what patients ask before they book — what a treatment involves, how many sessions it takes, what it costs as a band, whether it is worth a consultation — books that consultation, and passes anything that needs a doctor’s eyes to the dermatologist. It never judges a photograph.

## Questions

### Why do skin clinic patients drop out partway through a course?

Usually because they cannot see the change. Results from lasers, peels and hair treatments build slowly, and a patient comparing today’s mirror with last month’s memory sees nothing. Comparable photographs shown at each session, and a reminder that names the session coming up, keep more patients to the end of a course than any discount does.

### Can a skin clinic show before-and-after photographs?

Only with consent captured for that specific use, revocable, and framed so it does not imply a guaranteed result. Consent to be photographed for the medical record is not consent to be published. A treatment page that explains the procedure, the number of sessions and what varies between patients does more for trust and for search than a gallery.

### Is GST charged on skin treatments?

It depends on the treatment. Medical consultation and treatment by a clinical establishment are generally exempt; cosmetic procedures generally are not, and products sold at the counter are taxed as goods. The classification is a question for the clinic’s accountant — the software’s job is to apply it line by line so each invoice is right the first time.

### Does a single-doctor skin clinic need the same system as a chain?

It needs the same package and photograph model and none of the multi-branch reporting. A chain adds packages that can be redeemed at any branch, stock held across branches, and incentives for the staff who sell and perform treatments.

### How should a skin clinic present aesthetic treatment prices online?

As a band per session and per course, with the factors that move it: the area treated, skin and hair type, and the number of sessions a dermatologist expects. A firm price before a consultation is a promise the clinic may have to break, and a blank sends the patient to a competitor who answers the question.
