The market
How physiotherapy clinics in India actually operate.
A physiotherapy practice bills by session, not by visit, and a patient is on a course of 8 to 12 sessions rather than a one-off appointment. Almost every generic clinic system in India models the appointment and not the course, which is why physio front desks end up tracking sessions-remaining in a paper register alongside the software they paid for.
Workflow
The sequence we build around.
Assessment
First visit is 45 to 60 minutes and produces a case sheet, not a prescription — range-of-motion measurements, pain scale, and a provisional course length.
Course planning
The physiotherapist commits to a number of sessions and a frequency. This is the commercial unit. Most clinics sell it as a package and collect part of it upfront.
Session delivery
Each session logs what was done, what changed, and the home exercise assigned. Sessions are often delivered by a different therapist from the assessor.
Home programme
Exercises are handed over as video or print. Adherence between sessions is the single largest driver of outcome and the thing nobody tracks.
Reassessment and discharge
Repeat the assessment measures, compare against baseline, and discharge with a written summary. Clinics that skip the written discharge lose the referral.
Integrations
What it has to talk to.
- WhatsApp click-to-chat, per condition page
- Almost nobody fills in a form to book physiotherapy — they message. A button that opens WhatsApp with "Hi, I read your page on frozen shoulder" already typed removes the hesitation that loses the enquiry, and it tells the clinic which condition the person arrived on without any tagging work.
- Google Business Profile, with a matching NAP string
- Physiotherapy discovery is local before it is national, and the map pack decides it. The site’s job is to be the page the profile points at and to corroborate it, which means the same name, address and phone in the same format on both. A mismatch is one of the most common reasons a good clinic sits below a worse one.
- The clinic diary, only where somebody manages it
- A booking widget in front of an unmanaged diary produces double-booked slots and a patient turned away, which is a worse first impression than no booking at all. Most single-therapist practices in India should hand off to WhatsApp and say so.
- Practo and Justdial listings
- These already rank for the clinic’s name and often outrank its own site. The build should treat them as corroborating profiles rather than competitors: identical practitioner names and registration numbers on both, and the site carrying the depth a directory listing structurally cannot.
Constraints
What changes the build.
- Physiotherapists are not prescribers
- A physiotherapy record is a case sheet and treatment plan, not a prescription. Software that presents a prescription pad puts the practitioner in a regulatory position they do not hold. The document model has to reflect that.
- Multi-therapist attribution
- Sessions in a single course are delivered by different therapists. Both payroll and clinical accountability need per-session therapist attribution, not per-patient.
- DPDP Act consent for patient data
- Patient records and exercise videos are personal data. Consent capture, purpose limitation and a deletion path need to exist in the data model from the start, not be retrofitted as a privacy page.
Cost
What it costs, and how long it takes.
| Scope | Price (INR) | Typical timeline |
|---|---|---|
| Single-location clinic website with condition pages and online booking | ₹85,000 – ₹1,60,000 | 3 – 5 weeks |
| Multi-location practice with per-centre pages and an answer library | ₹1,80,000 – ₹3,60,000 | 6 – 10 weeks |
A worked example
One engagement, in three parts.
- Context
- A practice with strong clinical outcomes ranked for its own name and nothing else. Its site was one page listing twenty conditions as bullets, with a contact form and no fees.
- What was built
- A page per condition actually treated — what it is, what physiotherapy does about it, how many sessions it usually takes and the per-session fee — with therapist profiles carrying qualifications and registration numbers, and WhatsApp handoff on each.
- What changed
- The enquiries changed character before the volume did. Messages started arriving as "I read your page on frozen shoulder, can I come Saturday" rather than "do you do physiotherapy" — a person who has already self-qualified and already knows the price.
What goes wrong
The mistakes we see in physiotherapy clinics.
- Hiding the per-session fee behind an enquiry form because "it depends on the assessment". Physiotherapy is heavily price-checked in India; the patient finds a number somewhere, and withholding it filters out serious enquiries faster than unserious ones.
- One Services page listing twenty conditions as bullet points. A patient searches for their problem, not for a category, and a bullet ranks for nothing. Five real condition pages beat twenty bullets, and they are the pages an answer engine can quote.
- Stock photographs of models on treatment tables. Patients are deciding whether to let a stranger treat their body in a room they have not seen — every stock image spends trust rather than building it.
- Writing condition pages for conditions the clinic refers out. They attract enquiries that get turned away and drag down the pages that convert.
Questions
What physiotherapy clinics ask.
How many pages does a physiotherapy clinic website actually need?
Usually eight to fifteen: one per condition genuinely treated, one per therapist, fees, location and contact. The count follows what the clinic treats rather than a package. Twenty pages listing conditions nobody specialises in ranks worse than eight honest ones, because the thin pages drag the strong ones down.
Should a physiotherapy site take online bookings?
Only where somebody manages a real diary. For most single-therapist practices in India a WhatsApp handoff converts better, because the patient wants to ask one question before committing to a time. Add real booking when there is a front desk to keep the diary honest.
Do we need a separate page for each clinic location?
Yes, where each location is a real premises with its own address, phone and therapists, because local search rewards a page that corroborates a Google Business Profile. What it does not reward is a page per neighbourhood the clinic hopes to attract patients from — those have no premises behind them and read as doorway pages.
How does a physiotherapy page get quoted by ChatGPT or an AI Overview?
By answering a specific question completely in the first paragraph, in text a model can extract: real headings, a real table for fees, a real list for a course of treatment. A page opening with "Welcome to our clinic" gives a model nothing to lift. The ones that get cited answer "how many sessions for a frozen shoulder" in the first forty words.
Should the physiotherapists’ registration numbers be on the site?
Yes, on each therapist’s own profile alongside their qualification and what they actually treat. There is no single national physiotherapy register to validate against in India, so the number is recorded rather than verified — but publishing it is still one of the few places a clinic site builds trust with a fact rather than an adjective.
